Batch Job Management Subject Matter Expert
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Batch Job Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the transition of batch job scheduling and management from the incumbent service provider to internal operations. The SME will play a key role in ensuring a smooth, efficient, and error-free transition while maintaining the integrity of the current batch job environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing batch jobs in large enterprise environments, including scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing batch processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Transition of Batch Job Management:
Lead the transition of batch job management processes from the incumbent service provider, ensuring full continuity and minimal disruption.
Develop a detailed transition plan that outlines key milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
Collaborate with the incumbent service provider to gather all necessary documentation, scripts, and configuration details related to existing batch jobs.
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current batch job environment to ensure a complete handover.
Perform knowledge transfer sessions with internal teams to ensure all batch job processes are fully understood and can be supported post-transition.
Batch Job Configuration & Maintenance:
Oversee the configuration and setup of batch job scheduling tools and processes to ensure they meet organizational standards and best practices.
Review and update batch job configurations as needed to optimize performance and reliability.
Ensure that batch jobs are running on the correct schedules and have the necessary dependencies in place.
Develop and maintain clear documentation of batch job schedules, dependencies, and error-handling procedures.
Batch Job Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
Implement robust monitoring tools and processes to ensure batch jobs are running as expected.
Proactively monitor batch jobs for performance issues, failures, or delays, and take corrective action as necessary.
Troubleshoot batch job failures or performance issues, working with cross-functional teams as needed to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently.
Ensure that appropriate logging and alerting mechanisms are in place to capture and report batch job issues.
Process Optimization & Automation:
Analyze and optimize the current batch job processes to identify opportunities for improvement, including reducing manual intervention and increasing automation.
Implement automation solutions for repetitive tasks and complex workflows to improve efficiency and reduce the potential for human error.
Collaborate with developers and operations teams to streamline batch job processes and introduce new efficiencies where possible.
Compliance & Best Practices:
Ensure that all batch job management practices adhere to internal security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Maintain compliance with data integrity and security policies, ensuring that batch jobs do not pose risks to sensitive information.
Continuously review batch job schedules and configurations to ensure they are compliant with internal and external audits.
Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer:
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for all batch job-related inquiries, providing support and guidance to internal teams.
Collaborate with application development teams to ensure batch jobs are aligned with application updates and releases.
Train and mentor junior staff on batch job management best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
Vendor & Tool Management:
Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers for support related to batch scheduling and management tools.
Manage tool upgrades, patches, and licenses to ensure continued support and functionality.
Evaluate new tools and technologies that can enhance batch job management and recommend improvements to the existing setup.
Job Qualifications (Must Have Skills)
Must be an Australian Citizen, and a security clearance is desirable. 5+ years of experience managing batch job scheduling and execution in enterprise environments. Extensive experience with scheduling tools like Control-M, Autosys or IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler. Proven experience transitioning batch job processes from external providers to in-house operations. Hands-on experience with incident management, troubleshooting, and performance optimization for batch job environments
Job Qualifications (Preferred Skills)
Expertise in batch job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting in a multi-platform environment (Linux, Windows, Unix, etc.). Strong knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automating batch job processes. Familiarity with database and application integration in batch job processes. Strong understanding of dependencies, triggers, and error-handling mechanisms for batch job
Security Clearance Requirement Given the secure nature of this role, we are seeking candidates who are Australian Citizens with an active security clearance or are eligible for obtaining security clearance.
This requirement ensures that all team members are cleared to handle sensitive information and contribute to maintaining the highest standards of security in our operations.
On-call and Shift Expectations: This position is primarily focused on managed services, meaning you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our clients' IT systems (Applications and Infrastructure). Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you may be required to work in shifts to provide continuous support. Additionally, you may need to be on call to address incidents promptly and perform after-hours deployment activities as needed. Your ability to effectively manage these responsibilities will be crucial to ensuring the seamless operation of our services and client satisfaction.
