Women in Data Science Accelerator

This free 7-week course combines industry-led lectures, hands-on workshops and career guidance to help transform your passion for data and analytics into a career as a data scientist.

Inspired by research that highlights a distinct lack of women pursuing careers in data science, we have designed this programme especially for women.

• The skills and confidence to become a successful leader in data science
• A clear understanding of the career opportunities available in data science
• A storytelling framework to effectively communicate the influence and impact of data on business and society, and the value you bring as a data scientist
• A chance to advance your technical skills, through classroom-based training and practical project work
• An opportunity to connect with other women developing their data science careers at all levels

This free programme is open to anyone who identifies as a woman. The ideal participant will have:

3 or more years of experience working in a data-related field, i.e. part of your job requires you to extract insights from, or manipulate, sets of data using statistical tools. For example:

• Finance/Accountancy

• Engineering

• Demand Forecasting

• Quality Analysis

• Customer Analytics

Or

A third-level qualification in a numerical discipline (e.g. engineering, statistics, mathematics, physics, etc.), plus 3 or more years of professional experience in any industry.

We are particularly interested in participants who are familiar with at least one of the following:

• Excel Macros and/or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)

• At least one statistical programming language such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS, etc.

• Techniques to clean and manipulate data using a language such as R, VBA, etc.

• Methods to explore data using univariate, bivariate, & multivariate analysis

• Predictive analytics applications

And a strong desire to become a world-class Data Scientist!
