Accenture and Tech:NYC annual talent survey

Accenture and Tech:NYC’s annual survey on New York City talent trends finds business leaders are hiring and looking to the local workforce to fill their talent gaps. The survey of 350 C-level executives – all based in New York City and working across various industries – finds that a majority (83%) continue to grow their workforce in 2023 and are actively hiring.

Highlights of the report include:

  • Tech talent is top of mind for New York companies looking to hire – with more than half (59%) planning to increase the number of tech talent in 2023.
  • Nearly all survey respondents (99%) are confident their organization will be able to secure the tech skills they need in 2023 from the talent pool in New York City.
  • The top three most in-demand tech skills business leaders are looking for are cloud (78%), security (77%) and AI (75%). They also expect the most difficulty in hiring talent with expertise in these areas.
  • Although not actioned by many, business leaders say changes to degree requirements (23%) have become an important talent consideration for companies.

Get into a growth state of mind

Eight out of ten companies say their growth agenda has changed since the start of the pandemic. With growth becoming more important to investors, leaders, and boards it is now everybody’s business, not just for ‘growth companies.’ But innovating is hard. It requires a focus on customers as well as employees, on new sources of revenue and the existing business of today, and there are no silver bullets or models you can copy from other companies.

Our new research has identified a set of six growth practices that, when managed together, can help companies to unlock their growth potential to achieve an always-on state of growth – and more ‘good growth’ that creates 360 Value.

Developing the workforce of the future

Professional apprenticeships can help close the skills gap experienced by people in underserved groups.

In 2017, Accenture and Aon cofounded the Chicago Apprenticeship Network to jump start professional apprenticeship programs with employers like McDonald’s, Zurich Insurance and Walgreens.

Today, the network has 70+ member organizations and has created some 2,000 apprenticeships in more than 40 U.S. cities.
